I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Patrick McGoohan of The Prisoner died yesterday.

this show was so way way waaaaaayyyy ahead of its time. it mixed mystery, futuristic sci-fi, drama and anti-establishment damn the man ideals set amongst a trippy counter-culture backdrop.
i'd be willing to bet that david lynch and jj abrams were hugely inspired by the show.

if you haven't seen it i HIGHLY recommend watching the series. especially before the remake comes out.

the video for supergrass's "alright" was directly inspired by the prisoner.

i also looked for a clip from my favorite episode of the simpsons "the computer wore menace shoes" that is basicly homer getting sent to the village because he knows too much but fox put the kabosh on youtube clips of it. boooo.

childhood crushes incorporated

if you were of a certain age in the eighties i'd be willing to bet you watched kids incorporated.

go ahead and sing along i know you remember the words.

now we all know what happened to stacy. and most of us remember martika's one hit wonder but if you were of that certain age in that golden 80s time period and *also* of the female persuasion i would also be willing to bet that you forgot that you TOTALLY had a crush on ryan lambert.

maybe not from kids incorporated but *at least* from the movie monster squad.

rudy was a stone cold fox!!

one of my brothers bought me the 20th anniversary special edition of monster squad for christmas this year and i decided to watch it last night while laying in bed feeling fairly lousy from a cold. i almost forgot how much i truly, truly loved that movie. when most people of our generation think of eighties flicks they all are quick to mention the goonies. now the goonies was a great movie and all but in my book monster squad trumps it ANY day of the week. it's a total classic.

so based on the bonus features my favorite badass crush rudy is STILL a stone cold fox.

(check out about 4:30 minutes into this video)

it's nice to see that one of my childhood crushes is still hot and has gotten even hotter as the years have gone on -unlike some childhood crushes of the eighties: yeah, that's right i'm talkin bout you corey haim!

(yikes!)

but i digress....

so where is ryan lambert now? apparently he's living in san francisco and fronts the band elephone. and they're actually pretty damn good! (they've played with a few of my favorites anyway i.e. brian jonestown massacre, the kills, the dandy warhols).

it's funny but having had a crush on him as a tween kind of speaks volumes if you've ever seen some of the guys i've dated.

since i recently did a 2008 celebrity crushes blog i might just follow up with a blog in the near future revealing our crushes of yesteryear and see if we can find a where are they now.
